Hundreds of vendors. Thousands of people. Over 40 years of success. The Silver Lake FFA chapter attended the World’s Largest Irrigated Working Farm Show, more commonly known as Husker Harvest Days, on September 15. The students kicked off the day with a scavenger hunt hosted by the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. To complete the hunt, groups of three to four students traveled to different booths from each of the seven main divisions of agriculture: Agribusiness Systems, Animal Systems, Plant Systems, Environmental Services, Food Products and Processing Systems, Natural Resource Systems, and Power, Structural, and Technical Systems. They had to find a booth from each category and learn about new technologies from that field. Wrapping up the activity, they headed back to the UNL tent to receive their free T-Shirt. The rest of the day students had to themselves to look at other vendors and watch presentations/demonstrations. Junior Ashley Bonifas commented on the day as a whole: “Husker Harvest Days was a great way for our chapter to meet with and talk with industry professionals. We also had the opportunity to connect with possible future colleges for us. It was a great way for our students to prepare for their future, while we had a lot of fun along the way.”
