Students and Staff Celebrate National FFA Week

By Sydney Bartels

During the week of February 19-24, students and staff at Silver Lake celebrated National FFA Week. To engage students throughout the entirety of the week, everyone was able to participate in dress up days. The dress up days were as follows, Monday: Ag Career Day, Tuesday: Pajama Day, Wednesday: Camo Day, Thursday: Red vs. Green Day, and Friday: Blue and Gold Day. Even the elementary students were able to participate in the festivities. They participated in the dress up days, and had visits from the High School and Jr. High FFA Officers. The officers prepared activities for the students and discussed the importance of Agriculture and FFA. Senior FFA Officer Ashley Bonifas commented, “It was a great way for us to teach the younger generation more about agriculture, the FFA Organization, and agricultural education in the classroom. I enjoyed interacting with the elementary students and hope they will become FFA members in the future.” Thursday was highly anticipated by many of the students and staff members. It was Drive Your Farm Vehicle to School Day. When Thursday morning came around, there were 13 farm vehicles parked in the school parking lot. To wrap up the week on Friday, everyone participated in one of the favorite activities of the year: the annual Silver Lake FFA Cornhole Tournament. Students and teachers were split into pairs and entered into a single elimination bracket. There were lots of laughs and some disappointment, but at the end of the day, one team was announced as the winner. Mr. Knehans and senior Emily Monie took the Championship for the second year in a row to wrap up the 2024 National FFA Week.
