The Mustang speech team has been busy at various speech meets. They have spent countless hours preparing their speeches for each meet, leading up to the district meet in Grand Island Central Catholic on March 18th. Senior Katelyn Strampher says, “We practice really hard every week so that we can get to the point where we are right now. I think everyone has a really good chance to do well at districts.” The team competed in Elm Creek on February 22nd, and they brought home multiple medals. Sophomore Xander Journey placed second in serious with his speech “The Things They Carried.” Seniors Katelyn and Emma Strampher placed 4th with their duet titled “MouseTrapped.” Freshman Conner Blythe placed 1st in Novice Humorous with his speech “Monsters Under the Bed” and freshman Molly Hemberger placed 6th in Novice Informative with her speech “History of Ballet Shoes.”
The following week, the team traveled to Deshler to compete in the Twin Valley Conference speech meet on February 26th. Journey once again placed 2nd in the Serious category. The Strampher duo placed 2nd with their duet. Finally, Emma Strampher placed 6th in humorous with her speech “The Best Thanksgiving Ever.” Katelyn Strampher comments, “Mrs. Schmidt and Mrs. Jones have been the best advisors and coaches for speech. They have helped us through every struggle and put in a lot of time and effort to get our speeches prepared.” The following week, the team traveled to Deshler to compete in the Twin Valley Conference speech meet on February 26th.
