What better way to start off the school year than getting together with your friends and having a good time? On August 13th, 35 students loaded up on a bus and headed to the Brader Country Barn for an evening of fun at the annual FFA and Future Business Leaders of America Back to School Bash. When the students arrived, the FFA officers kicked off the night with their opening ceremonies followed by them sharing their favorite FFA event. Next up, the FBLA officers gave a short presentation on why incoming students should get involved in the two organizations. Then the fun really began. The students changed into their swimsuits and hit the slip n’ slide. They had a blast and were soaked in bubbles and water and grinning from ear to ear when they were done. While they were having fun, Kim and Kevin Bonifas volunteered to grill hamburgers and hotdogs for supper. Once everyone had dug into the delicious meal, the FFA advisor, Mrs. Curlo, played a short video to recap the FFA year. After everyone had had their fill, they clambered onto a hay rack for a ride down to the river. The scenery was beautiful, and even though the river wasn’t full enough to swim in, there was enough water for everyone to splash around in. Once the students were worn out, they headed back to the barn to help clean up. Now the fun was winding down and the students headed back to school, tired from an evening full of fun. After the event, Silver Lake FBLA adviser Mrs. Behmer said, “This was my first year doing it, and I thought it was a great opportunity for the FBLA and FFA organizations to get together. I also enjoyed seeing all of the kids outside of the school building interacting together.”
