The Silver Lake Student Council put on their annual Veteran’s Day Program on November 11th. The event took place at the high school, where all local veterans were welcome to attend. Kindergarten through 12th-grade students attended the program honoring the veterans with an honorary speech and a song given by the elementary students.
Makayla Dinkler, Vice President of Student Council, opened the program by welcoming all who served. Tyler Cumpston then defined what a veteran is. He explained what veterans have been through and then presented a short video. After a brief video, all of the veterans attending the program were recognized individually by Luke Swanson, Rehgan Miller, and Seirra Watts-Hofstetter. Mike Borzekofski was kind enough to speak in front of the crowd explaining what he has done for our country. The program was then closed with a moment of silence and Taps.
The veterans were then served a meal of roast beef, mashed potatoes, a roll, corn, and jello poke cake. “I think the program went very smoothly and it was a great reminder of what people have gone through to fight for our country,” commented Student Council member Rehgan Miller. A big thank you goes to all the veterans who have served our country. Your dedication means more than words can say.
