The Silver Lake E-Sports team’s season of hard work and dedication has most definitely paid off! Not one, but two teams have qualified for state E-sports, which hasn’t happened in all of Coach Knehans’ coaching years. Qualifying in Fortnite is the team of sophomore Hayden Karr and freshman Brody Knehans. Switching up halfway through the season, Karr and Knehans were paired together unexpectedly and haven’t lost a game since. Competing in Rocket League is the team of seniors Adrian Gomez and Manuel Fontes, and junior Connor Donnelly. Though this team has suffered a few losses throughout the season, they powered through when it counted and upset higher-ranked teams to compete at state. To qualify for state E-sports, players are entered in a tournament containing 40 teams after the regular season ends. The final four teams competing qualify for Rocket League, and the final eight teams qualify for Fortnite. Making history in his coaching years, Mr. Knehans comments, “We’ve never had more than one team make it to state in all the years I’ve been coaching.” Both teams compete on Friday, with Rocket League playing Sandy Creek first, followed by Fortnite playing Kimble.
