With the 2022-2023 speech season underway, Silver Lake headed to Doniphan Trumbull for their third meet of the season. The school was well represented, with competitors in six different categories: Duet Acting, Informative Speaking, Persuasive Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, Serious Speaking, and Humorous Speaking. The students performed well in each of their three rounds throughout the day. Unfortunately, many of them fell just short of receiving a medal at the end of the long day. However, two speeches performed well enough to earn a top spot. Senior Samantha Bonifas earned 2nd place with her persuasive speech about how Almond Milk and other products shouldn’t be referred to as milk. Juniors Sydney Bartels and Morgan Dinkler brought home third place with their humorous duet about two 16-year-old girls going driving for the first time. Junior Ashley Bonifas commented on her thoughts on the day: “This meet was a relatively larger meet than our team is used to, with 18 schools in attendance, so for us to go and compete well against much larger schools was a great accomplishment. I thought that it was a great experience for our team to challenge ourselves and grow as speech competitors.” Even though Silver Lake only had two finalists at the end of the day, every single team member learned something new about how the present their speech and even received feedback to implement into their speech for the next competition.
