The Mustangs Black Out Drugs

By Taylor Hanson

The Mustangs went all out to show their pride in Red Ribbon week. During the week of October 24-28, Silver Lake celebrated Red Ribbon week. The purpose of Red Ribbon week is to encourage students to live a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle. Each day of the week the high school students had different dress-up days. Monday: Blackout, Tuesday: Adam Sandler Day, Wednesday: Dress up as your favorite teacher/student, Thursday: Soccer mom vs. BBQ dad, and Friday: Jersey/Sports day. Elementary students also went all out for their dress-up days that included wacky day, pajama day, and wear-red day. The Student Council puts on Red Ribbon week and hands out a treat for the students who dressed up. The Student Council adviser Mrs. Henkel said, “The younger classmen did an amazing job dressing up. We had some really good outfits on Adam Sandler day and soccer mom vs. BBQ dad.”  Molly Hemberger is a 7th grader and Student Council member. She was a student who dressed up every day and went all out. She really cherishes these events in our school. Molly said, “Red Ribbon Week is a way for people to get together, have fun, and be drug-free. It also reminds and teaches my friends and me about how bad drugs and alcohol are.”
