On Saturday, January 9 the Silver Lake Speech Team participated in a virtual speech meet held by Lexington. This year the Speech Team is coached by Teresa Schmidt and Kaitlyn Hemberger. With many hours of practice under their belts, the Silver Lake team proved that they were ready for the competition, bringing home numerous medals from the day. Duet- Taylor Hanson and Lana Swanson placed 2nd, Humorous Prose- Savannah Junek places 3rd, Informative- Ashley Bonifas placed 4th, OID- Braden Karr, Eric Blythe, Taiton Trausch, Kassi Jones, Taylor Hanson place 4th, OID- Sydney Bartles, Josi Sharp, Jenna Strampher, Reagan Miller, Madison Karr placed 3rd, OID- Trista Hanson, Brock Karr, Cierra Mankhey, Samantha Bonifas placed 4th. When Junior Cierra Mankhey was asked her thoughts on the virtual speech meet she had this to say “Our first meet was definitely different this year. Participating in a virtual meet is a lot different than competing at an in-person meet.” As a freshman with her first time competing in a speech competition and having it virtual Ashley Bonifas had this to say, “I feel we all competed well, and I was proud of the way I placed for all the hard work and preparation I put into giving my first speech ever.”
