May 18, 2022

Wrapping Up the Year

May 13, 2022 was a big day for the Silver Lake Elementary students. To kick the day off, students, parents, and community members gathered in the gym to watch as the students received their end-of-the-year awards. Students received various awards ranging from AR winners, to Perfect Pitch in music, to participating in the handwriting contest or the spelling bee.  Some students received perfect attendance, the book-it award, or an award for an art contest. Wrapping up the honor’s program was the 6th-grade graduation. Mrs. Bartels, the 6th-grade teacher, had 17 students in her class this year: Serenity Simpson, Tanner Vance, Libby Soucek, Brooklyn Himmelberg, Justin Sharp, Aleigha Mankhey, Micheal Corliss, Jake Kral, Laikyn Krueger, Molly Hemberger, Abby Dumler, Lee Gibson, Jordan Bonifas, Connor Blythe, Paesynn Arntt, and Kaylee Karr. Libby Soucek said that she is going to really miss the teachers and recess. Jordan Bonifas said his favorite part of 6th grade was quiz bowl. After all the pictures were wrapped up, everyone headed out to the football field for the afternoon. First up on the track meet schedule was the pre-school race. Any kids not yet in Kindergarten could participate in this 50-meter dash. Then came the 800, which is the longest race any of the elementary students can run. After this, the kids broke up into groups of Kindergarten-3rd graders. And 4th graders- 6th graders. The students participated in various events including the 50, 100, and 200-meter dash, the 400 and 800-meter run, long jump, softball throw, jump rope, and shot put. There were two students that broke records that day. Third-grader Bella Schmidt broke the long jump record with a jump of 11’ 2 ½”. Fourth-grader Colston Karr broke the long jump record with a jump of 11’ 10”.
