By Milla Butler

The District Track meet was full of multiple personal records for the Mustang track team as well as some state qualifications. Despite the tough competition in their district, seven team members were able to qualify for the state meet in Omaha, and a few qualified in multiple events. First year coach Jordan Scott said, “It was cool seeing seven kids qualify. They have all worked really hard as the season has progressed. I’m excited to see what they accomplish this week at Burke.” Sophomore MaKenna Karr qualified in the 100-meter dash, finishing a district champion with a personal best time of 12.89. She also qualified in the 300-meter hurdles, placing second with another personal best time of 51.23. Sophomore Sophie Schmidt placed runner-up in three events, qualifying in the 200-meter dash with a 27.38 time, the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 1:02.25, and long jump with a jump of 15’3.5”. Junior Paige Faimon qualified in the 800-meter run with a run of 2:31.72, which was seven seconds better than her best time of the season.
