They came. They buzzed. They answered. The Silver Lake Mustangs started their season with a strong matchup. On January 26, 2023, the Mustang Quiz Bowl team traveled to Kenesaw for the first high school meet of the season. They competed against Shelton in the first round and won. In the other two rounds, they competed against Kenesaw and Blue Hill. It was a strong battle but, unfortunately, the Mustangs were not able to finish those two rounds with a win. With this being their first meet they still have a long way to go. Each member is confident and excited to continue the season. Senior Samantha Bonifas says, “It felt like this year’s team is going to work really well together because we each have individual strengths in many different areas. I know that in the areas that I am not as good in one of my teammates is able to back me up.” This is the first year Mr. Knehans is coaching the Silver Lake Quiz Bowl team. He is more than excited to watch the team grow this season and in upcoming seasons. Knehans says, “I am extremely excited to be the quiz bowl coach. I love trivia in general and it is different and fun to watch. I enjoy being surrounded by smart people. I am excited to watch my students compete outside of physical sports.” He continued saying, “We’ve won matches in both high school and junior high, but we have yet to win a meet. High school has our home Silver Lake invite February 1st, and a huge meet at North Shore hosted by ESU 9 with several schools there competing, and I am hoping for a good turnout.”
