The Mustangs Beat the Falcons but Fall to the Raiders

By Logan Duester

The Mustangs were looking for vengeance after their 46-33 loss against SEM. On Tuesday, January 27th, they had a trip to visit the Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons. They came super prepared, with a strong 1st quarter start, with the Mustangs adding 9 while holding the Falcons to 1. With that dominant first quarter, the Mustangs went into the half up 15-14. The Mustangs came out ready to close this out, with a 14-11 3rd quarter, and then tying the 4th with 14 a piece. The Mustangs came out victorious with a 41-37 victory. Senior Landon Duester led the charge with 17, and classmate Beau Bonifas added 13, with 9 coming from behind the arc. Meanwhile, Senior Jack Reents cleaned the glass with 7 boards. Coach Watt said, “You can win any game with a 9-1 first quarter”. They proved this very true with gritting out a win on the road against a solid Wilcox-Hildreth team.

With the victory under their belt, the Mustangs hoped to move their momentum going into the TVC Tournament with a win at home versus the Lawrence-Nelson Raiders. With the first quarter wrapping up, it was a dogfight, with the Raiders leading 11-9. Unfortunately, the Raiders’ lead grew to 27-19. The Mustangs never recovered from the deficit, with the final score being 66-42. The leading scorer was Duester with 15 points, followed by senior Jaxon tenBensel with 12. The leading rebounder was Senior Jack Reents, horsing 7 boards. The Mustangs are looking for a statement win against their TVC matchup, the Shelton Bulldogs.
