After a tough loss against SEM, the Mustangs fought hard against the Wilcox Hildreth Falcons on January 24th. Silver Lake started off slow in the first quarter only scoring 1 point compared to Wilcox Hildreth’s 7 points. The Lady Mustangs came out strong in the second quarter and scored 9 more points but they still could not keep up with the Falcons. The final score was 23-42. Freshman Makenna Karr led the team offensively scoring 6 points. Makenna Karr also fought hard for rebounds, earning the most on the team with 7.
The Mustangs were hungry for a win. They traveled to Nelson on January 27th to battle against the Lawerence Nelson Raiders. The Mustangs came out strong out-scoring the Raiders 12-6. They continued to play their hearts out and scored 10 points in the second quarter and 11 points in the 3rd. They held the Raiders to score a total of 10 points in both the second and third quarters combined. The Mustangs gained a win with a final score of 37-27. Sophomore Katy Soucek led the team with 6 rebounds. Soucek and freshman Sophie Schmidt each scored 10 points. Sophomore Emma Schmidt dominated offensively, scoring 17 points. When asked what motivates her to come out and play hard Emma said, “I have the desire to want to win. Personally, I am a very competitive player, and practicing every single day makes me want to succeed even more. We came into the Lawrence Nelson game knowing that we had to beat them going into TVC.”
