On April 14th, the Silver Lake track team traveled to Shelton. Thursday was a hot and windy day for the team, but it didn’t stop them from getting an outstanding 20 personal records. In field events, sophomore Adrain Gomez threw 41’- 07″ in shot put earning him fifth place. Freshman Jeremy Sharp PRed in shot put with a throw of 21’- 11”. In discus all three boys had PRs. Gomez, with a 118’- 04” discus throw, earned fourth place. Freshman Cody Plambeck threw a 100’-02” and took sixth place. Sophomore Jack Sorensen also PRed in discus with a throw of 90’-10”. In girl’s field events, freshman Katelyn Strampher PRed with a discus throw of 107’- 01” earning her third place. Freshman McKenna Pankoke PRed in discus and shot put with throws of 68’- 06” and 24’- 09”. Moving on to the running events, the team as a whole obtained twelve personal records. In boy’s running events, sophomores Adrian Gomez and Easton Heuertz both earned PRs in the 100-meter dash with times of 12.81 and 13.65 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, junior Cody Pankoke and Sorensen PRed with times of 27.55 and 30.06 seconds. The girls had 8 PRs out of the 12 total in the running events. Freshmen McKenna Pankoke and Grace Heuertz earned PRs in the 100 meters with times of 17.18 and 19.34 seconds, respectively. In the 200-meter dash, both freshmen Macy Parr and Katelyn Stramper PRed with times of 32.10 and 34.94 seconds. Junior Georgi tenBensel earned fourth place in the 400-meter dash with a PR time of 1 minute and 6 seconds. In the 1600-meter run, freshman Sophie Butler placed second with a PR time of 6 minutes and 28 seconds. Freshman Milla Butler also PRed in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6 minutes and 55 seconds. Sophomore Morgan Dinkler placed first in the 3200-meter run with a time of 14 minutes and 4 seconds. tenBensel placed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a PR time of 17.49 seconds. In the 300-meter hurdles, tenBensel placed first with a time of 50.59 seconds. Lastly, the 4×400 relay consisting of tenBensel, freshman Katy Soucek, Dinkler, and Sophie Butler placed fifth with a time of 4 minutes and 51 seconds. Overall, the team had a successful track meet. Coach Conroy commented on the meet, “We had a very good day. I am very pleased with how everyone performed. It was a very windy day but we have become used to it. The weather did not stop them from succeeding. I am very proud of the kids and how far they have come.” The Mustangs will travel to Blue Hill for their next track meet on April 19th.
