On Wednesday the 20th of January, four smart cookies went to represent the Silver Lake High School at the Webster County Spelling Bee. These four contestants were 7th graders, Sophie Schmidt and Mckenna Karr, the 8th graders were Milla Butler and Clay Plambeck. These four students, along with multiple elementary students, Xander Journey, Lane Magarin, Justin Sharp, Kaylee Karr, Blaise Cushen, Alivia Pancoke, used their spelling skills to make it to the top. After a battle of a tug-of-war between the top three students, Milla pulled ahead by spelling the winning word, ‘stalagmite’, correctly and won the whole competition. Milla Butler commented about the competition, “When I first won, I was just really shocked and surprised and I didn’t expect to win at all.” Congratulations Milla!!
