Senior Abbie Skupa earned her 1,000th career point on Friday, January 3 as the Mustangs took on the Red Cloud Warriors in Red Cloud. After picking off a steal early in the second quarter, Skupa took the ball the full length of the court, getting fouled under the Mustang’s basket to shoot two free throws. Sitting at 999 points, Skupa drained her second free throw to join only two other Silver Lake Alumni, Mackenzie Skupa and Stephanie Shaw, to reach the 1,000 point milestone.
The Mustangs got off to a hot start, leading the Warriors 23-3 at the first quarter break. Shooting 50% from the field, they extended their lead by 9 more points to head into the half with a score of 39-8. Red Cloud and Silver Lake played head to head in the second half, with each only scoring 12 points for a final score of 51-20. With the win, the Mustangs improved their record to 8-0 on the year.
