After five years of being principal at Silver Lake, Terry Bauer will be taking the new Superintendent position for the 2020-2021 school year. First starting his teaching career in 2007, Mr. Bauer began his first teaching job at Silver Lake. He started out as a Health and Physical Education teacher but taught many other subjects throughout the years. Some of these classes included: Careers, 7th and 8th-grade History, World Geography, General Business, Information Technology, and a variety of Physical Education courses from both at the elementary and high school. Mr. Bauer took on many coaching roles. He coached Junior High and High School Football, Boys Basketball, Girls and Boys Track and High School Golf.
In the school year of 2015-2016, Mr. Bauer was promoted to Principal at the high school. “Mr. Mahoney informed me that he was planning to retire and encouraged me to start taking my classes. I took my courses through Concordia University to gain my Master’s Degree and get my certification to become a principal. I applied for the position and interviewed with the board and was named Principal at Silver Lake Schools,” said Mr. Bauer. After five years of being Principal, Mr. Bauer decided to switch it up. “I’ve wanted to be a Superintendent since I started my coursework at UNK for my specialist degree. The budget and law side of school are two areas that are very interesting to me. I think that it will be a great opportunity. We have a stable group on the board who truly want what is best for the students of Silver Lake, and this is a very critical part to the success of a school district. Having a positive relationship between your school board and your administration team is something that has helped Silver Lake provide a great deal of amazing opportunities for our student body. Over the last thirteen years I have really grown to love everything about the Silver Lake district and the communities that make it up,” commented Mr. Bauer.
