On April 4 the high school track team traveled to Franklin to compete in the Franklin track meet. Both girls and boys competed very well. The girl’s 4×100 relay team earned first place. The team consisted of freshman Makenna Karr, sophomore Katy Soucek, senior Georgi tenBensel, and freshman Sophie Schmidt. tenBensel also placed second in the 300-meter hurdles. Schmidt placed in all four of her events; she got third place in the 100-meter dash, fourth in the 200-meter dash, and fourth in long jump. Karr placed fourth in the 100-meter dash and sixth in long jump. Soucek placed fifth and sophomore McKenna Pankoke placed sixth in shot put. Schmidt says, “Overall we all placed very well. There are still a lot of things that we can improve on before our next meet.”
For the boy’s team, freshman Hayden Karr got first place in the 800-meter dash and also earned third place in the 1600-meter run. Junior Adrian Gomez got second place in shot put. Freshman Jaxon tenBensel placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles, fifth in triple jump, and sixth in the 400-meter dash. Hayden Karr says, “I really wanted to win all my races and I knew it was gonna be hard but I kept pushing through the whole race.”
