The Silver Lake boys basketball team opened their first home basketball game with a win on Tuesday, December 7. After a tough loss to the Deshler Dragons, the Mustangs were hungry for a victory. As they took the court of the barn, a win was in mind. After the first quarter the Mustangs led 11-10, but fell at half with a score of 22-20. The Mustangs outscored the Wildcats in the third and fourth quarter with scores of 15-10 and 14-11 respectively. Oakley Rosno finished the game with an impressive 32 points to lead the Mustangs to a 49-43 win. Matthew Hanson and Jake Knehans followed on the scoreboard with 5 points each. Knehans boarded 7 rebounds in the game and Hansen added 6. “It was good. We played well. We executed better than the Deshler game. We rebounded well, and that put us on top,” added Oakley Rosno. “This game shows that we will be able to play with some better teams in our district and conference. When we want to play defense and score, we can. It gives us no excuse to not have a good season.” The Mustangs are now 1-1, and will travel to Elba to take on the Bluejays on Friday, December 11. The December 15 game against Gibbon has been postponed.
