The Silver Lake Cross Country team competed at the Twin Valley Conference Meet in Hebron and returned to School with some great achievements. Head Coach Kel Knehans when asked about the last two meets and preparing for districts said, “We just try to stay healthy and strong physically and mentally.” A strong mind and body are just what the team needs to prepare to go to districts.
The Mustangs had many students who placed and some with great personal records, including freshman Kaylee Karr, who not only placed 8th but ran a personal best time of 26:19. Senior Paige Faimon and junior Hayden Karr placed 10th in their respective categories.
In the junior high division, 7th grader Elise Parr placed 2nd, and 7th grader Olivia Whitten earned third place. 8th grader Devin Maudlin placed 3rd as well. Many runners ran their personal best time at the conference meet and are hoping to continue to improve their times for the last regular season meet before districts. Junior Jayden Parr ran 23:36, Frank Thomas ran 24:33, and Lee Gibson, 28:30, all running their fastest times of the season. The teams that won the conference meet were the Blue Hill girls and the Shelton boys.
When Coach Knehans was asked what he thought of the TVC meet’s outcome, he said, “I am proud of the team, and even though we didn’t win, I think they now all know what time they are capable of running.” The Mustangs will compete at McCool on Thursday, October 10, and then run at the same course for districts a week later.
