On September 3rd, 2021, the Silver Lake Mustang’s high school football team wanted to display their talents under the Friday night lights on their home field in Bladen. They played a team that has shown their skills from last year when they almost took the state playoff championship, but lost and took second place. However, the Mustangs wanted to prove to Spalding that they can compete with the best. The Mustangs had very good overall game stats during the game. One Mustang who always puts his all on the field was senior Oakley Rosno, who had the most rushing yards with a total number of 221; he also had two interceptions and two touchdowns. Junior Jake Knehans also contributed two touchdowns.
Another player who is pretty young is freshman Lane Conway who proved that he might just be good enough to play varsity more often, with one assisted tackle and a solo tackle. Lane was very happy and he said, “I assisted Quinn Rosno with the tackle and also did my solo tackle, and I felt great and happy with the tackles I made because it made me feel confident and good about myself.” Of course, there were many other incredible plays made on Friday night, which all contributed to the Mustangs having a victory over Spalding Acadamy with a score of 44-28.
With this win, assistant coach, Mr. Behmer said, “Spalding was 6th in the state so we knew they were going to be tough, but I knew our boys could play them because we know the game. We jumped in pretty fast we were good, especially with past games where we let a team come back which we shouldn’t have, then pulled out. Although overall it was very exciting to win a game for our school and program, we also let the boys know that this was one game, and we still have a lot left to learn and show our other teams what we have.” Our boys came out strong and gave their all and they were all rewarded with a win.
