Silver Lake traveled to Red Cloud for a night full of volleyball on September 14. The night started out with a close C team game. The Lady Mustangs won the first set, but lost the second and third sets in a tough battle. Sophomore Taylor Hanson commented on the game, “In the first set we were all communicating and the energy was high. In the second and third set, we just were not at the same level of energy that we usually have and it affected the way we played.” Following the C team game was the JV game. Despite some serve receive errors, the Mustang volleyball team was able to win both sets. “I feel like we kept our heads up the whole game. Even when we were down a couple points, we kept our composure,” said Sydney Bartels.
The final game of the night for the conference rivals was the varsity match. The Mustangs jumped to a one set lead with their aggressive serves, with a score of 25-4. In the second set, the Warriors challenged the Lady Mustangs. However, with the contribution of 19 assists from senior Trista Hanson and 8 from junior Lexi Wengler, Silver Lake was able to battle through and finish the second set with a 25-20 win. The third set was much smoother as the Lady Mustangs sealed the deal with a 25-10 win. Senior Amanda Ehrman finished the game with 7 aces to take the team to the top. “I had a confident mentality back at the serving line, and that paid off and helped us win,” said Ehrman. Wengler followed with 5 aces. Leading the Mustangs in kills was junior Georgi tenBenel, Wengler, and Ehrman with 14, 8, and 6 respectively. Silver Lake now has an 8-4 record.
