Traveling to Franklin for their third meet of the season, the Mustang track team competed exceptionally and brought home many medals to prove it. The Mustangs showed out and managed to bring home twenty-one medals between the girls and the boys. The girls’ contributions led to a victory at Franklin, placing first out of thirteen teams. Starting out strong with the girls, juniors MaKenna Karr and Sophie Schmidt brought home the bulk of the medals, with Karr finishing first in the 100-meter dash with a season record time of 13.12, obtaining fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, and also fourth in long jump. Schmidt, also carrying her weight, acquired a first-place medal in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.02, fourth in the 200-meter dash, and fifth in long jump. Senior Paige Faimon also contributed her fair share of points to the team, finishing first place in the 800-meter run with a season record time of 2:36.61, and fourth in the 400-meter dash. The freshmen trio of Kaylee Karr, Brooklyn Himmelberg, and Libby Soucek was another group of notable competitors at the Franklin meet, Karr gathering first place in the 1600-meter run with a PR of 5:43.64 and second place in the 3200-meter run. Himmelberg obtained third place in the mile, and Soucek acquired second place in long jump and third place in triple jump. The girls’ 4×400 relay team was yet another first-place winning event; the relay, containing MaKenna Karr, Kaylee Karr, Faimon, and Schmidt, finished in 4:27.85. Lastly, seniors Katelyn Strampher and Katy Soucek showed up in throwing, the two obtaining first and second place in discus. Strampher received a first-place medal after her throw of 114.11.
Not only did the girls receive multiple medals, but the Mustang men also had notable contributions. Juniors Hayden Karr and Jaxon tenBensel were the boys’ most notable competitors, obtaining five medals between the two; Karr earned first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.45, and fourth in the 1600-meter run. tenBensel received second place in the 400-meter dash and third place in the 300-meter hurdles. The boys’ 4×400 relay team, consisting of Karr, tenBensel, sophomore Lane Margarin, and freshman Brayden Snell, received fifth place. Doubling his achievements, Margarin also medaled in the 3200-meter run, receiving fifth place. It was an overall successful day in Franklin for the Mustangs’ third meet of the season, the team receiving twenty-one medals and a first-place finish from the girls.
