Silver Lake traveled to Harvard for a 6 man football matchup on October 1. With playoffs approaching, every win is essential for the Mustangs to secure a spot as a title chaser. Silver Lake kept this in mind as they lined up for a night under the lights. The first quarter started slowly with the Mustangs scoring 8 points. In the second quarter, Silver Lake put up 20 points on the board to Harvard’s 7. Senior Brock Karr commented, “We started slow. We just had to find the plays that worked for us and start playing our game. We adapted well, and when we finally got into our groove, we started playing much better.” At halftime, the scoreboard read 28-7. In the second half, the Mustang defense shut out the Cardinals. Junior Jake Knehans tallied up a total of 10 tackles, added to senior Brock Karr’s and sophomore Adrian Gomez’s 8. Freshman Casey Conway stepped up to take 2 interceptions along with a sack. Sophomore Keaton Karr led Silver Lake with 197 rushing yards to give the Mustangs a 56-7 win. “We came into the game with a winning mentality and it worked. The Harvard game helped our mentality for playoffs. It made us more prepared with more game experience and it made us more comfortable with certain plays.” The Mustangs will play Wilcox-Hildreth for the homecoming game on October 8th.
