Friday, December 11, was a chance for both the Girl’s and Boy’s Basketball teams to pick up their second wins of the season and both teams delivered. Competing with the Elba Blue Jays, the Lady Mustangs got off to a hot start with help from 12 points in the first quarter for senior Kerigan Karr, leaving the Mustangs with a 20 point lead going into the second quarter. Silver Lake continued to extend their lead through the second and third quarter with help from a career-high game for junior Katelyn Karr with 23 points herself. She also crashed the boards hard, grabbing 8 total rebounds, with 6 offensive boards for the night. The Mustangs struggled from behind the arc, but they found success driving to the basket and finding their posts on the inside. They finished the night with a 60-21 win. The Lady Mustangs look ahead to their games next week against Gibbon on December 15 and Kenesaw on December 18.
The Mustang Men took the floor following the girls’ game and found the same success. In the first half, the Mustangs put up 21 points in both quarters with help from junior Oakley Rosno with 23 points. In the second half, the men extended their lead to finish at 73 to the Blue Jay’s 24. Offensively, ten Silver Lake players managed to put points on the board, shooting 48% from the field. Seniors Matthew Hansen and Logan Greenough each pulled down 7 rebounds for the Mustangs and freshman Quinn Rosno aided with 6 assists. With a cancellation with the Gibbon game on Tuesday next week, the Silver Lake boy’s team will begin preparing for their game against Kenesaw next Friday, December 18.
