Silver Lake track athletes attended the Russ Snyder Invite on Thursday, May 4, 2023. The coaches were happy with how the team competed. Coach Conroy said, “Our times have really improved the last couple of meets. I think we are peaking at the right time of the season. The throwers have been improving tremendously.”
For the boy’s team, freshman Hayden Karr placed first in both the 800 meter run and 1600 meter run. Additionally, junior Keaton Karr placed 3rd in the 100 meter dash and 4th in the 200 meter dash. Freshman Jaxon tenBensel placed 4th in the 300 meter hurdles and 4th in the 400 meter dash. With his personal best time this season, freshman Jayden Parr placed 6th in the 3200 meter run. The boys 400 meter relay, consisting of tenBensel, junior Easton Heuertz, Gomez, and Karr placed 4th. In field events, Junior Adrian Gomez placed 3rd in shot put and 6th in discus.
For the girl’s team, freshman Sophie Schmidt placed 2nd in the 100 meter dash, 2nd in the 200 meter dash, and 3rd in long jump. Also, senior Georgi tenBensel placed 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles. Sophomore Milla Butler placed 2nd in the 1600 meter run and 5th in the 800 meter run. Moreover, junior Morgan Dinkler got 2nd in the 3200 meter run and 3rd in the 800 meter run. Freshman MaKenna Karr placed 4th in the 100 meter dash. Sophomore Sophie Butler placed 5th in the 200 meter dash. The girl’s 3200 meter relay, consisting of Sophie Butler, Milla Butler, sophomore Macy Parr, and Dinkler placed 3rd overall. The girls 400 meter relay, consisting of Karr, sophomore Katy Soucek, tenBensel, and Schmidt came in 3rd place. The girl’s team had a great showing in discus, with three Mustangs placing: sophomores Katelyn Strampher came in 3rd, Soucek placed 4th, and McKenna Pankoke placed 6th.
The Mustangs’ next track meet is Districts at Sandy Creek on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. “We have a great opportunity to send some athletes to the state track meet,” said Coach Conroy.
