The Mustangs Track and Field team started the season strong. They competed in their first track meet of the year at Wilcox-Hildreth against some tough competition. In the first session, the jumpers and throwers started the day. Freshman Libby Soucek jumped a total of 31’ 6.5” in triple jump, placing sixth. For discus, senior Katy Soucek threw 105’ 2”, placing second. In the shot put, senior McKenna Pankoke placed fifth after throwing 30’ even.
The second session started a few hours later with running events. Junior MaKenna Karr started off the session running a 13.29 100-meter dash. She placed sixth in this event. In the 200-meter dash, Sophie Schmidt placed fifth. She ran this race in 27.77. She also placed second in the 400-meter dash. She ran a 1:05.58 race.
For the boys’ team, Jaxon tenBensel ran the 400. In this race, he placed seventh with a time of 56.90 seconds. In the 800-meter run, junior Hayden Karr and senior Paige Faimon both placed second in this race. Karr ran a time of 2:13.18, and Faimon ran a time of 2:39.97. Freshmen Kaylee Karr and Brooklyn Himmelberg both earned a medal in the 1600-meter run. Kaylee ran it in 6:16.16, placing second, while Brooklyn ran it in 6:36.69, placing eighth. Karr also ran the 3200-meter run. She placed second with a time of 13:52.84. Sophomore Lane Magarin also participated in the 3200-meter run. He placed sixth with a time of 12:17.08. In the 300-meter hurdles, MaKenna Karr placed third with a time of 53.72. Freshman Braedyn Snell also earned a medal. He placed seventh and ran it in 49.86 seconds. The 4×4 relays ended the meet. The girls’ relay team placed third with a time of 4:33.98. The relay team includes Kaylee Karr, MaKenna Karr, Faimon, and Schmidt. The boys’ relay team consists of freshman Laikyn Krueger, Magarin, Hayden Karr, and tenBensel. They placed sixth with a time of 3:59.33.
Overall, the Mustangs competed well for their first meet. Coach Scott said, “Overall, the teams did great. It was a great meet overall for both boys and girls, seeing personal records broken easily as the day progressed. We hope to see more improvement as the year goes on.”
