On March 14, 2024, the Silver Lake High School track team went to compete at the annual UNK Indoor track meet. In past years, up to eight to ten teams have been competing, but this year, over 24 teams were competing for the day. The Silver Lake team knew it would be a long day coming to this track competition, but they knew they would compete with all they had. Even though this day was longer than expected, the girls and boys shined with the placings they received. Starting with the girls, it goes as follows: junior Katy Soucek placed 3rd in shot put, sophomore Sophie Schmidt placed 4th in the 60 and 200-meter dash, sophomore MaKenna Karr placed 6th in the 60 and 400-meter dash, and the 4×400 team (consisting of MaKenna Karr, junior Paige Faimon, senior Morgan Dinkler, and Sophie Schmidt) placed 6th as well in the meet. Not only did the girls do great, but the boys also did an astonishing job as well. The boys’ placing goes as follows: senior Adrian Gomez placed 2nd in shot put, sophomore Jaxon tenBensel placed 3rd in the 400-meter dash, the 4×400 team (consisting of Jaxon tenBensel, senior Jordan Faimon, freshman Lane Magarin, and junior Lane Conway) placed 4th, senior Tayten Menke placed 5th in high jump, and senior Keaton Karr placed 6th in the 200 meter dash. The team was elated with how they did on Thursday, but now they can look forward to their next meet in Wilcox-Hildreth on the 22nd.
