On Saturday, September 11, 2021, the varsity girls traveled to Loomis to play in their Memorial Tournament. The Lady Mustangs had a full and fun day of volleyball, they finished third in the tournament out of eight teams. Teams competing included Franklin, Shelton, Hi-Line, Bertrand, Loomis, Hampton, Maxwell, and Silver Lake. Silver Lake’s first matchup was against Hampton where the Lady Mustangs took the win with set scores of 25-15 and 25-18. After coming out hot in the first game, the Mustangs lost the second game against Shelton, who won the tournament, with set scores 25-16 and 25-14. After that tough loss, the girls were ready to come back and fight for third place taking on Franklin. Silver Lake defeated Franklin in the final game of the day in three sets with the help of an impressive defensive stop put up by senior libero Katelyn Karr with 27 digs which helped hold the Flyers to only 17 kills for the three sets. Senior captain Trista Hanson said: “I am proud of my team for getting third. We kept our heads up after the loss and came out and played our game. We got the dub and third place!”
