On February 20, the high school basketball boys traveled to Kenesaw to play Blue Hill for the first round of Sub-Districts. The leading scorers of the game were junior Keaton Karr with fifteen points and junior Jordan Faimon with twelve points. The boys kept fighting the hardest they could throughout the game. Coach Bade says, “Anyone that had the opportunity to watch our Silver Lake team cannot argue with the fight and unwillingness to surrender they developed in this season. I honestly have the same pride in them regardless of last night’s outcome. This team had tremendous buy-in to what we asked them to do, and it showed in the season improvement of them not only as a team but as every individual player in our program. I am referring to all the players on our JV and Varsity teams; we have a group of special young men that I was privileged to be a part of on a daily basis.” Karr says,”We started off the season pretty slow and once we got adjusted to the new system and played with each other, we really improved and had a lot of guys on our team with no varsity experience and really stepped up and played a major part in our season’s success.” The boys finished this season with a record of 9-14. They started off the year with 1-9, then the team went 8-3 in the next stretch of the season. The JV boys ended their season with a 15-1 record. Junior Tayten Menke at the end of the season had a total of 200 points, 42 steals, and 12 blocks. Faimon finished the season with 105 rebounds, only playing in 15 varsity contests. Karr had 104 assists for the season. Finishing the season Coach Bade had a few things to say: “As a head coach, I have been so fortunate to have Shaun Fisher and Allen Ehrman as assistants. Coach Fisher has put a huge amount of time and mental planning for our team and players ever since he joined me as an assistant last summer. He is great for players, and he has been great for me. Coach Ehrman has a unique knowledge of the little things it takes to be successful in the game of basketball. He constantly brings different thoughts or ideas to me, and I can’t state enough how that has helped our team, and even more so benefited me in my first year as a head coach. Both of these guys have given a lot of time to Silver Lake Basketball these last 7 or so months, and I certainly don’t take their value for granted.”
