Making Holiday Tournament History

By: Madison Miller & Ashley Bonifas

Ending a 5 year streak of not making it to the championship game in the Annual Holiday Classic, the Mustang Men were able to pull off a nail-biter in the first game against Exeter-Milligan. After playing a rough first quarter, with a score of 11-2 in favor of the Timberwolves, the boys were ready to come out to play in the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Mustangs pulled through and were able to score 11 more points on top of their 2 while the opposing team was only able to score 4 more points on top of their 11, putting the Mustangs down by 2 at the half. Heading into the third quarter after a close first half, the Mustangs put up 17 points to Exeter-Milligan’s 10. The fourth quarter was a dog fight between the Mustangs and the Timberwolves, scoring back and forth. Exeter-Milligan outscored Silver Lake by 3 points, but it wasn’t enough to top the Mustangs. Matthew Hansen received player of the game and had 15 points, 6 offensive rebounds, 4 defensive rebounds, and one block.

On December 31st, the Mustang Boys made it to the championship game against the Parkview Christian Patriots. The Mustangs fought a hard battle, but could not pull off the win. The boys ended their game with a 48-74 point loss. Blaine Simonton had a game total of 12 points. The boys had a team total of 29 rebounds. Oakley Rosno received the player of the game with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Although the Mustang Men lost, they ended up receiving 2nd place in the Holiday Tournament.
