Pass. Set. Hit. That’s exactly what the junior high volleyball team did on October 1st. The girls hosted their annual Junior High Volleyball Invite with Red Cloud, Wilcox/Hildreth, and Southern Valley. The day kicked off right away in favor of the Mustangs. Coming out strong against the Falcons, the Lady Mustangs took the first set 25-6. 7th grader Kaylee Karr made it hard for the Falcons to start up an offense, scoring 10 service points in a row. Keeping up the momentum into the 2nd set, the Lady Mustangs served it up again, earning a team total of six offensive aces. They outscored the Falcons again with a final score of 25-9. After a quick break to allow Red Cloud and Southern Valley to battle it out, they headed into the championship game against Red Cloud. The first set had everyone on the edge of their seats as the Lady Mustangs fought hard but couldn’t come out on top, losing the first set 25-27. Going into the second set, the Mustangs couldn’t break the Warrior’s momentum, ultimately falling to them 8-25 in the last set. Even with the loss to Red Cloud, the Lady Mustangs placed 2nd over Wilcox/Hildreth and Southern Valley in the annual Silver Lake Junior High Volleyball Invite. With the season wrapping up soon, 8th grader Brynlee Kushen said she feels that their season started off with a rough start, but she’s excited for everyone to work together to pick it up going into their triangular and upcoming games. “I think if we communicate more and stay focused, we can make this season a good one.”
