The 27th annual Silver Lake Holiday Tournament kicked off with a matchup of the Silver Lake Mustangs and the Exeter Milligan Timberwolves. The Lady Mustangs started the game with a tight first quarter and a score of 7-7. The Mustang offense accelerated in the second quarter to put the home team up 22-15 at the end of the first half. “We executed our offense really well during the Exeter Milligan game and were able to get into many different offenses,” said Karr. Silver Lake finished the game strong with a 41-33 score to advance to the championship of the tournament. Senior Katelyn Karr and junior Georgi tenBensel led the team 11 points each.
The next day, Silver Lake prepared to take on the Shelton Bulldogs. The Bulldogs jumped to a 14-10 lead in the first quarter. The second quarter continued on as a close game as Silver Lake went into the locker room down 5. Shelton began to pull away in the third quarter with the help of made shots from the 3 point line. In the fourth quarter, Silver Lake was unable to keep up with the Shelton offense and lost the game 53-36. Karr went 9 for 12 from the freethrow line for the Mustangs. The Lady Mustangs finished second in the tournament.
