The Silver Lake Lady Mustangs faced off against the Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons on January 26th. In the first quarter, the Mustangs outscored the Falcons 11 to 3. They kept the same pace for the next two quarters, going into the final quarter of play with a 43-13 lead. In the fourth quarter, the Falcons were able to outscore the Mustangs 0 to 9. During the first quarter, Wilcox Hildreth suffered an injury and had to put four people on the court. The Mustangs answered back and also put four people on the court.
Leading the Mustangs was senior Makenna Karr with 30 points and 7 rebounds. Behind her was Libby Soucek with 6 points and 6 rebounds. Another defensive threat was Brooklyn Himmelberg with 7 rebounds. These three people really controlled the game all around. The Mustangs were able to come out with the win over the Falcons, 43 to 22. The following night, the Silver Lake Mustangs battled against the Lawrence-Nelson Raiders. Straight off an ankle injury was Sophie Schmidt, who still had 6 points and 4 steals. Another senior, Kamille Karr, had 9 points, with three 3-pointers. With the second most points was sophomore Libby Soucek with fifteen total points and two rebounds. Leading the team again with points and rebounds was Makenna Karr with 23 points and 6 rebounds. The Mustangs were able to get the win 62-32 over the Raiders. Head coach Sinsel said, “I thought our defense was solid for both of these games. We got off to some really good starts, which allowed us to relax and play confident basketball. I was proud of MaKenna for stepping up when we were down a player. She was a solid leader on the court, and she did a lot for us offensively and defensively.”
