Silver Lake A team girls take on Red Cloud in volleyball on September 13th. In the first set, the girls lost 18-25 but still had great serves. For the second set, the girls were trailing 15 points but came through and won 25-20 with a big comeback. In the third set, the girls lost 15-17 but Mrs. Henkel says, “Brynlee Kushen and Izzy Whitten served very well for us for this game, helping us get a lead on the Warriors. It was our first game and we weren’t able to pull out a win as we wanted.” For the Silver Lake girls’ B team the first set was sadly a loss 20-25. The girls’ second set played well and they won 25-18. In the third set the Red Cloud girls came out with the win.
That same week, Silver Lake played Lawrence Nelson on September 15th. The girls’ first set was 23-25 the girls were close but didn’t get it. In the next game, they won by 7 points 25-18 their third and final set was a heartbreaking lost 7-15. Mrs. Henkel says, “We struggled with serving this game which we really needed in order to get a win. The girls played more confidently during this game than they did the first, but we still have some improvements to make.” For the B team girls, the 3 sets went well. In the first game, they did lose 17-25 but that didn’t stop them they came back with a second set win with a 15-point lead, 25-10. For the final set, the girls come out to win the game 15-11. Mrs. Henkel says, “The B team played really well against the Raiders. Kaylee Karr served 12 in a row to get us a very important lead. I am very impressed with how well she composed herself during such a tough game!”
