On Tuesday, April 12, 2022, the Silver Lake Junior High Track Team traveled to their first meet of the season to face some tough competition.
In the 100-meter dash, 8th graders MaKenna Karr placed first with a time of 13.94 and Sophie Schmidt placed third with a time of 14.00. In the 200-meter dash, Schmidt placed first with a time of 28.76. In the 400-meter dash, 7th grader Brynlee Kushen placed third with a time of 1:18.93. In the mile, 8th grader Kamille Karr placed sixth with a time of 7:58.69. In the 110-meter hurdles, 8th grader Kerra Hofstetter placed fourth with a time of 19.66. In the 300-meter hurdles, MaKenna Karr placed second with a time of 57.38 and Hofstetter placed fifth with a time of 1:02.77. In the girl’s 4×100 relay, MaKenna Karr, Kushen, Kamille Karr, and Schmidt placed third with a time of 1:00.97. In the long jump, Schmidt placed second with a jump of 14-4.50 and MaKenna Karr placed sixth with a jump of 13-00 feet. In the triple jump, Kamille Karr placed fourth with a jump of 27-5.00. In the discus, Karah Bartels placed third with a throw of 58-08.
Overall the girls placed fourth with 70 points. Coach Crowe commented, “It was a very windy day, but the kids did a great job. The JH Lawrence Nelson meet is one of the toughest we compete in each year. I was very proud of how hard our kids competed. For the first track meet of the year, I was very pleased with the results.”
Starting off for the boy’s track team, in the 400-meter dash 8th grader Jaxon tenBensel placed third with a time of 1:03.24. In the 800-meter run, 8th grader Hayden Karr placed second with a time of 2:32.02; Karr also placed first in the mile with a time of 5:36.72. 8th grader Drake Rosno placed first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 19.70. Rosno also placed first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.25. tenBensel also competed in the 300 hurdles and placed third with a time of 52.30. In the boy’s 4×400 relay 7th grader Brody Knehans, Rosno, Hayden Karr, and tenBensel placed fifth with a time of 4:52.02. In field events, Brody placed fifth in the high jump with a jump of 4-08.00. Rosno placed sixth in the long jump with a jump of 14-09.50.
Overall the boys placed fourth with 54.50 points. Coach Knehans said, “I was very pleased with how we came out and competed in our first meet. We are off to a good start and we’ll use this meet as a stepping stone to reach new goals this season.”
