Junior High Mustangs Fall to the Bobcats

By Addison Schmidt

On December 5, the Junior High girls’ basketball team traveled to Blue Hill to take on the Bobcats. Coach Elley says, “As a whole, I thought that this was one of our better games.  Unfortunately, we couldn’t get any shots to fall.  We made some great plays to the basket and the girls got plenty of open shots.  Like I said before, our biggest issue was not getting the ball into the hoop; leading to a field goal percentage below 10%.” Seventh grader Cerenity Simpson got 6 points in the game which were both three-pointers. Seventh grader Libby Soucek scored five points, two two-pointers and one from the free throw line. Eighth-grader Brynlee Kushen ended the game with four points from the free throw line. The girls had an excellent third quarter, scoring eight points. The girls finished the game with 15 points.

Though the girls tried their hardest they fell to the Bobcats with a 15-41 loss. Soucek says, “We had a tough time while playing some tall girls. Even though they had a tough defense we were able to get a few shots to fall. We also need to work on communicating and working together as a team.” Elley also says, “To Blue Hill’s credit, they play a very physical style of basketball.  In turn, that allowed for us to get to the free-throw line often.  In contrast to the rest of the night, we shot well at the line; shooting above 50%. Like I said earlier, this was one of our better “full-team” games, but we need to continue to improve, especially in our rebounding and shooting.”
