JH Basketball Take On the Warriors

On Tuesday, December 3, the Junior High Lady Mustangs took the court against the Red Cloud Warriors.  The Mustangs came out strong in the first half leading 7-0 going into halftime. Aftertime halftime, the girls came back out and ended up winning the game, 11-3.  Leading the girls in points during the “B” game was Emily Monie with 6 points and shortly after was Madison Karr with 3. Coach Henkel commented that “ The girls worked extremely hard and did a great job protecting the ball and playing tough defense.  This was the first time playing against a man defense and the girls ended up on top! We have lots to work on, but I’m excited to see what the rest of the season brings.”

The “A” team started out the first half strong and were ahead 9-8 going into the locker room at halftime.  Red Cloud came out of halftime with determination and made it difficult for the girls to score. Silver Lake stayed in the game and kept a lead most of the second half until the Warriors were able to battle and tie up the game.  The Lady Mustangs ended up losing the game in a one-point score difference of 20-19. It was a tough loss but both teams played extremely well. The girls will use this game to help improve and they left the fans with a fun game to watch.  Leading the “A” team with points was Katelyn Strampher with 6 points and Emma Schmidt with 5. Katy Soucek led the team in defensive rebounds with 4 and Lana Swanson close behind with 3. Coach Crowe, commented “I was proud of how hard the girls played.  It was a very exciting game and we had a chance to win at the end, and as a coach that is all you can ask of your players.”
