On May 1st the Silver Lake track team traveled to Red Cloud to compete in the TVC Conference track meet. Coach Conroy commented on how the team did saying, “I thought overall we did very well. We competed and brought home a lot of medals compared to the size of our team.” With much determination, freshman Adrian Gomez placed first in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet 10 inches. He has placed in several other meets, so he went into the meet knowing that he could place well. He also placed 5th in discus. Adrian commented on his success saying, “I am very grateful for all of my coaches and I am very happy to be competing. I could not have done it without my coaches.” Adrian shows a great amount of promise for the future, and he continues to get better.
Gomez was not the only Mustang to place and gain points for the team. Katelyn Karr placed 4th in the long jump, and the girl’s 4×8 team consisting of Lana Swanson, Emily Monie, Reagan Rust, and Kerigan Karr placed 3rd. Madison Miller also did well at the meet placing 5th in the 400 M, 5th place in the 100 M, and 5th place in the 200 M. For long-distance, Morgan Dinkler placed 3rd in the 3200 M, and Kerigan Karr placed 6th in the 1600 M. Dinkler also placed 4th in the 800 M. Our hurdlers represented Silver Lake very well. Georgi tenBensel placed 5th in the 100 hurdles and 5th in the 300 hurdles. Tristian Kasson placed 4th place in the 110 hurdles. Kasson also placed 4th in the 100 M. Brock Karr placed 5th in the 110 hurdles. Another freshman who placed was Keaton Karr. He placed 6th place in the 200 M. The boy’s 4×4 team consisted of Brock Karr, Tayten Menke, Lane Parr, and Matthew Hansen placed 6th.
Overall, the Silver Lake track team competed very well and brought a lot of competition to the meet. The team has a good chance of doing well at districts, and hopefully, they have a good rest of their season.
