On December 5, 2023, the Lady Mustangs packed their bags and traveled to Axtell Public Schools. Being their first away game, they had a lot of excitement in the air, junior Macy Parr said, “I felt pretty good to go to our first away game and to cheer on my teammates.” The game started like any other, but the girls had a great mindset and goal initially. With this mindset, the girls had great scores and points for each. One Mustang who stood out from the rest in this game was sophomore Sophie Schmidt, scoring 11 points. But Sophie was not the only one that scored points in this game. Many others helped aid the outcome of this game: junior Emma Schmidt with 9, sophomore MaKenna Karr with 5, and senior Morgan Dinkler and junior Katy Soucek had 4 points each. Ultimately, the Lady Mustangs came out on top with a score of 43-16. Junior McKenna Pankoke said, “It was a really good game and we had a lot of good plays and sportsmanship all around.” The Lady Mustangs shined and displayed their
talents in this first away game. There were still so many players to excel and show what
they had in the next home game on Friday.
In the same week on Friday the 8th, the Lady Mustangs had their 3rd home game of the season. With their win on Tuesday the 5th, the girls were even more excited and pumped for this next game. Junior Emma Schmidt said, “We all felt really confident and came with a mind-set saying we had to attack and play with our heads to win this game.” The game started off like any other, but since the girls had a good mindset, they set out some goals of their own. Sophie Schmidt had another great game, earning 14 points, 8 steals, and 1 assist. Junior Katy Soucek also shined offensively with 12 points. Karr and Emma Schmidt ended the night with 10 and 8 points, respectively. This game was triumphant in every way with a final score of 58-13. The Lady Mustangs played hard and kept their cool while paying this team.
