“If you do the work, you get rewarded. There are no shortcuts in life” (Michael Jordan). The Lady Mustangs basketball team is looking forward to starting their season with their first game on Thursday, December 1 at Red Cloud. Coming off of an 18-7 for the 2021-2022 season, the girls have been putting in countless hours on and off the court to push themselves to be the best team they can be. After losing three seniors last year, the team welcomes new freshmen Sophie Schmidt, MaKenna Karr, Kamille Karr, and Karah Bartels. The returning starters for the Mustangs are seniors Samantha Bonifas and Georgi tenBensel and sophomore Emma Schmidt; senior Brooklyn Meyer and sophomore Katy Soucek are also returning with a lot of experience, with new head coach Kate Sinsel and assistant coach Kim Bonifas guiding the girls. The Mustangs had their first jamboree game against Friend to prepare for their first game. Samantha Bonifas commented, “The jamboree game was a really good test to see how the work we’ve put into practice has affected our game time play. I am really proud of everyone on the team for the way we executed our offense, defense, and press.” Come out and support the Lady Mustangs for their first two games on December 1st at Red Cloud and December 2nd at Deshler.
