The Lady Mustangs came off of an exciting win against the Blue Hill Bobcats heading into their match against the Shelton Bulldogs. On September 9, the Mustang JV team took on the Shelton JV team at 6:00 for a best of 5 game. The ladies came out strong, winning the first set 25-15. Starting off the second set, the ladies were a little slow out of the gate, but they came back and only lost the set by 7. Coming out into the third set, the ladies got themselves into a hole, but they climbed back out bringing the score closer, with an ending score of 20-25. In the fourth set the Mustangs struggled to get on a roll and lost the set 10-15. When asked what she thought the team struggled with and what the team did really well at JV setter, sophomore Lana Swanson stated, “I think we did a good job playing as a team and coming together as a team when we needed to, and I think we struggled with getting our momentum going. We had a slow start, so we got down quite a few points and it was hard to come back from.”
After the loss the JV team took, the varsity team was gunning for a win. The lady Mustangs came out focused and ready, with a neck-to-neck match, losing the set 21-25. In the second and third sets, the ladies struggled defensively, causing them to lose both sets 14-25. Senior libero Katelyn Karr commented on the game. “I was really excited to play Shelton because they are a really good team, and I’d love to play them again because they challenge me in the back row. The game taught us a lot and we definitely improved.” Katelyn led the team defensively passing up a total of 21 digs and 26 serve receives. Once the pass was made, Senior Trista Hanson helped out with 13 assists, with Junior Lexi Wengler adding another 10 assists.
