On Friday the Junior High Lady Mustangs took the court against the Deshler Dragons. The “B” team game was first and the girls came out strong, but so did the Dragons. Mckenna Pankoke was the leader with four defensive rebounds. Following close behind was Emily Monie with three. Monie also was the high team scorer with three points. Taylor Hanson also contributed to the Mustang success with three offensive rebounds. At halftime, the score was a tie between the Mustangs and Dragons at 3-3. After a pep talk at halftime, the girls came back out and played some good defense. The Mustangs weren’t able to pull off the win and lost with a final score of 3-11. Taylor Hanson commented on the game and said, “ Even though we lost, we learned from our mistakes and became better as a whole. I’m very proud of the team.”
The “A” team stepped out on the court with determination and confidence and hoped to beat the Dragons. The girls played good offense and defense but were having some trouble getting the ball to sink in the hoop. At halftime, the score was 6-16, with the Mustangs falling behind the Dragons. The girls came into the game after halftime and fought to get the game back. After a tough fight, the girls fell short 11-26. 8th grader, Lana Swanson thought,” It was a tough loss, but I think we learned a lot from the game and the girls put in a good effort. Deshler played good defense, so we had a tough time scoring, but I’m still super proud of how we played.”
