Going into what could’ve been the last game of their 2023 season, the Mustang football team stepped onto the field with one thing on their mind- getting a win. The Mustangs came out victorious against their rival, the Blue Hill Bobcats, and are ecstatic to get a chance to compete in the playoffs. Stepping up for the first time as starting quarterback, sophomore Beau Bonifas excelled in his position, passing a total of 149 yards for the Mustangs. Another sophomore, Jaxon tenBensel, also majorly contributed in offense, obtaining a total of 159 rushing yards. Acquiring the highest amount of receiving yards, senior Jordan Faimon led the team with 119 receiving yards. Freshman Brody Knehans also helped the team with the leading amount of tackles for the Mustangs. Kicking an impressive 41-yard field goal, senior Manuel Fontes comments, “My thoughts going into the game were that we had to win this game to be able to get into the playoffs. With some of the starters injured, we had to really push through and try our best. Our offensive line and defense improved by a lot in the second half. Starting preparation for the playoffs, we have to have that winning mindset and have good practices coming up next week. We have to play for each other and have each other’s backs.”
