Traveling to Waco for their third game of the season, the Silver Lake Mustang football team defeated the Nebraska Lutheran Knights, acquiring a hard-fought win. Starting off the game strong, the Mustangs led the score 6-0 in the first quarter. Keeping their stamina for the second and third quarters, the Mustangs obtained scores of 22-8 and 14-6, respectively. Concluding the night with a win, the final score ended 42-14 in the Mustangs’ favor. Leading the team in offense were senior Keaton Karr and junior Lane Conway. Karr acquired 176 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Conway obtained 42 rushing yards, 78 passing yards, and two touchdowns. Defensive leaders include sophomore Jaxon tenBensel with 11 total tackles and Conway with 7. Commenting on the Mustangs’ well-earned win, head Coach Brown comments, “Our team drastically improved with their physicality and intensity. Tackling and blocking also improved this week. Overall, we improved in every aspect of the game from week 1 to week 2. We changed up our defense which played more to our strengths when going against Nebraska Lutheran. We also established the run game by maintaining our blocks on the offensive line and driving the defensive players back which allowed our ball carriers to immediately gain a few more extra yards. By establishing the run game, this allowed us to make a few big passes. I also was glad that we could get our younger players a chance to play in a varsity game and get experience. I was extremely proud of how our players responded to the loss the previous week and worked hard during practice and came ready to play against Nebraska Lutheran.”
