The Silver Lake football team traveled to Deshler for a conference matchup on September 30th. The Mustangs started a slow first half. Deshler scored 26 points, while the Silver Lake offense struggled to gain yards. The Mustangs scored 6 points in the third quarter and put another 14 up in the fourth. The Dragons scored 8 points in the fourth quarter. The Mustangs’ fighting efforts were not enough to come out on top. Deshler won 34-20. “Coach said to start playing harder. We wanted to work as a team. We tried to limit their huge plays. Even though we didn’t win, we still put our all into it,” said junior Manuel Fontes. Freshman Jaxon tenBensel led the team with 84 rushing yards. Jake Knehans led the team with 9 solo tackles and 12 total tackles.
