On October 3, the Junior High Mustangs fell short of the Shelton bulldogs. “Shelton brought in a pretty good team. They were a physical group with some good ball carriers,” Head Coach Seth Elley stated. The Mustangs came out slow allowing 32 points in the first half. After a great speech from head coach Seth Elley, the Mustangs came back out fired up. Only allowing 1 touchdown in the second half and also scoring themselves in the end the score was 38-6. “I was proud of the way our guys continued to play hard; competing until the very end,” Coach Elley also said. “The outcome of the game is certainly not what we wanted. As a team, we have some things that we need to continue to focus on and work on.” The defense was definitely the best part of the game with 7th grader Laikyn Krueger coming out of the first half with 5 tackles and 3 tackles for loss, and in the second half 8th graders Brody Knehans and Xander Journey had a combined 7 tackles. 8th grader Logan Duester was making plays in the backfield by taking out some of their key runners with 4 tackles. On offense, Knehans was the only one to get into the endzone thanks to some key blocks by 7th grader Connor Blythe. Go to Wilcox-Hildreth on October 17 to watch the junior high football team take on the Falcons.
