On Wednesday, January 19, 2022, the Mustang spelling bee team went up against some of the best spellers in the district. The spellers went up against 30 students who knew their words. All of the spellers fought hard in all schools, but only one can advance to the state spelling bee. The spellers from Silver Lake were 7th graders Logan Duester and Cooper Wengler, 8th graders Landon Duester and Sophie Schmidt, 3rd graders Amielia Gomez and Christopher Smidt, 4th graders Graham Karr and Blaise Kushen, and 6th graders Kaylee Karr and Justin Sharp.
All of the Mustangs made it past the first round of written tests, but after that, the kids were eliminated little by little throughout the match. All the schools were losing their kids because the words kept getting more difficult for the spellers in all the schools. But in the end, there was only one winner. Kaylee Karr earned third place overall. Overall all the students did a phenomenal job!
