On January 8, the Mustangs’ basketball teams traveled to Heartland Lutheran for an afternoon of basketball. To start off the day, the ladies’ JV team kicked things off with a win over the Red Hornets with a score of 25 to 13. Keeping the momentum going, the boys’ JV team put on the pressure, coming out with another win for the record. Following up two great wins for the Mustangs, the ladies suited up, ready to play. They came out strong, nearly breaking the record for most points in a quarter. Senior Katelyn Karr led the team in points, earning herself 15, and senior Amanda Erhman kept up the intensity with seven steals. Pumped up and ready to go, the boys started off strong. Sophomore Keaton Karr tallied up the most points with 15, with junior Jake Knehans close behind adding another 12 points to the total 56. The Harvard girls were forced to forfeit because of sicknesses, so January 14 was a night for the boys. The JV boys got everyone pumped up with a win for the game to follow. The varsity game was a great win for the boys, with senior Oakley Rosno racking up 36 points for the team. Out of the total 57 points made, 30 of them were from 3-pointers. Overall, both Mustang teams came out with several more great wins, getting everyone excited for the Mustangs to take on the Franklin Flyers on January 18. Sophomore Adrian Gomez said, “Playing these games helped build our mental toughness because we have to be ready to come out and play hard no matter who we are playing.”
